State Food and Drug Administration: Supermarket genetically modified fresh food must be marked

The State Food and Drug Administration recently issued the "Supermarket Fresh Food Packaging and Labeling Management Regulations

The State Food and Drug Administration recently issued the "Supermarket Fresh Food Packaging and Labeling Management Regulations (Draft for Comment)", which strictly regulates the packaging and labeling of fresh food set up by supermarkets. The main contents include: the date of packaging shall not be used instead of the date of production; genetically modified fresh food shall be marked in a prominent position on the label; in addition, it is also stipulated that the purchased fresh meat shall not be pre-processed into meat stuffing.

For genetically modified and imported fresh foods, the "Draft of Opinions" made special instructions: genetically modified fresh foods should be "marked" in accordance with the regulations in the label. The marked content is eye-catching and bright in color, and the text font is not smaller than other marked text in the label.

Imported fresh food shall be marked in Chinese with the name, country of origin and specific place of origin, shelf life, and contact information of importers and suppliers.

The Food and Drug Administration stated that supermarket operators should be responsible for the packaging and labeling of fresh products sold. If they violate relevant regulations, they will be punished in accordance with the Food Safety Law.

It is reported that the "Draft Opinions" was formulated in accordance with the "the People's Republic of China Food Safety Law" and other relevant laws and regulations, and will be open to the public for comments from now on until the 25th of this month.
